The kind that will make you do a double take
I keep a list of quotes in my phone.
I write down knowledge I think is significant, or of some importance to my life.
This week, I will be sharing the one’s you need to hear most.
(Keeping it short, I will be at NFT NYC for half of the week)
Before we begin, I just want to remind you that with every subscription, we grow this email list a little bigger. If you enjoy my writing and want to support the Digging Deep newsletter, I encourage you to hit that subscribe button and share with a friend, thank you.

“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.” - Marcus Aurelius
Aurelius is vocal about the idea that we have limited time in this life. Death is inevitable, but the act of living is not. After you are born, it is up to you to truly live life. What this means to you, I am not sure. Living life refers to the one you are in right now. So many people worry about their posthumous legacy, failing to realize the ones who they want to see the legacy will also die in due time. You are a given a small window on this planet, a window completely insignificant to the entirety of the universe and it’s timeline. Live in the now, what is in front of you is what matters. In this one life it is crucial to do things with intent and to the best of your ability. Being alive is a privilege. Take advantage of it.
“We cannot fully appreciate the light without the shadows. We have to be thrown off balance to find our footing. It’s better to jump than fall. And here I am.” - Matthew McConaughey
Yes, this is from the actor. McConaughey’s book, Greenlights, really surprised me with his diverse levels of perspective on life. The moral of this quote is that the dark times make the good ones better, every failure makes for a sweeter success, and taking chances is vital. The path of a good life is never linear. If you only ever experienced good things, they would no longer be good things. If you were never knocked down, you wouldn’t know how to get back up. If you never took a chance, you may end up with remorse. Welcome the negatives to make for a bigger positive. Regardless of outcomes to different experiences, at the end of the day you can find comfort in the fact that you are still here.
“Never quit when your pain and insecurity are at their peak. If you must retreat, quit when it’s easy, not when it’s hard.” - David Goggins
Quitting when it’s hard is dangerous because there is no way to tell if it was discomfort or truly urgent. Quitting when it it’s easy gives you time to reflect and make the appropriate decision. The cliche but meaningful statement “if it were easy, everyone would do it” is extremely relevant in this context. Most things worthwhile are hard. People quit those worthwhile things because they are hard. When they experience what hard feels like, its an instant retreat. The ones who make those decisions after the hard times pass are the ones who separate themselves from the pack.
