What I Learned This Week #3
Good Conversation, Lessons From Alex Hormozi, Health and Longevity
What’s up legends!
This week I listened to a lot of podcasts, and surely enough I found out some pretty cool stuff.
On top of that I will share with you why I have been on a steady fitness journey for the past 5 years.
Let’s get into the cool stuff 👇
Good Conversation
Last weekend I was listening to the “All-in Podcast” where these 4 guys usually talk about venture capital, business, politics, tech, the market and more….BUT
One of the podcast members, Chamath Phalyapitya, gave some advice that was noteworthy for future reference.
He said:
“Try to go a whole conversation with someone avoiding the question “What do you do?” (for a living) And you will be surprised how much you learn about that person.”
He posed it as an “American question”. In Italy, where he was during the podcast, he said they are much more focused on connecting with someone and enjoying the simplicity of life, whereas in America we judge everything on status.
We spend our lives constantly chasing the next big thing and don’t slow down to realize what is in front of us.
I thought that was a profound statement coming from a billionaire CEO and venture capitalist.
Next time you are talking to someone, find out more than what they do for a job, because there is a good chance that the job does not exemplify their true self.
The Podcast for anyone interested:
2 Lessons From Alex Hormozi
Alex Hormozi went on the Modern Wisdom podcast with Chris Williamson where they discussed far more than just Hormozi’s business success.
There is plenty to learn from Alex Hormozi about entrepreneurship and business. I am reading his two books “$100 million Offers” and “$100 million Leads” right now which I will discuss on future newsletters.
Have tough conversations
Hormozi talked about all of the hard conversations he needed to have to make his life better.
You know you have to quit your job, you know you have to tell your girlfriend you are leaving, you know you have to tell your parents you are moving out, but you still will not do it. Because it is hard.
We are afraid of judgement, we are afraid of the unknown. And that is what keeps us in the same spot.
But if we swallow that fear and have those conversations, it will move our life forward.
The longer we wait to have these conversations, the longer that particular part of life sucks.
Hormozi said that taking action on these conversations will only want to make you have more of them, given the burden you are freed from.
As I write this, I am realizing we have a theme of conversation this week.
Goal-Driven vs. Fear-Driven
Hormzi says that aiming toward something can definitely drive us forward, but the fear of staying in the same spot can be the ultimate fuel.
If you think about it, staying in the same shitty spot is much worse than working toward a goal you may or may not achieve.
I highly recommend this podcast to anyone looking to move their life forward, particularly young men in their 20s or 30s like myself:
