What I Learned This Week #5
The Happiness Equation and The Content Game
What’s up legends,
What does it mean to truly be happy?
The Happiness Equation
Most of the time you will receive a bunch of different answers from a bunch of different people, but this week I heard the best one yet.
Author and Professor, Arthur Brooks, was on The Tim Ferris Show where he gave his definition of what it means to be happy, it is essentially an equation.
Happiness = Enjoyment + Satisfaction + Purpose
He called this trifecta “the macros of happiness”. If you are not familiar, “tracking macros” is a term often used by bodybuilders or dieticians meaning the measurement of carbohydrates, protein, and fat that you eat. Depending on your goals, if you fall short in one of the categories, it is not optimal. Same goes for happiness.
Brooks adds that many of us mistake pleasure for satisfaction and enjoyment. He says that nothing you do for pleasure should be done alone. For example, drinking a beer. Drinking a beer alone is chasing pleasure while the memory you create drinking with others is enjoyment, there is a distinct difference. Satisfaction is delaying gratification. It is achieving things through suffering. If you get a book published with your name on it, but you did not write it, there will not be any satisfaction because you did not suffer through the process. Purpose is a tough one. Why are you here? Brooks mentions that a lot of us can find purpose in the divine, in other words, submitting yourself to something bigger like God. We find peace and purpose in perspective. Of course purpose can be different for everyone.
When I heard this, I wrote it in my phone immediately. I now have a new equation for happiness and I know if the numbers don’t add up, I need to find which variables to change.

The Content Game
The past two weeks consisted of me binging both of Alex Hormozi’s books. I know I have talked about him before, but I am going to talk about him again, because he rocks.
A quote from $100 Million Leads:
The best day to start posting content was the day you were born. The second best day is today. Don’t wait like I did.
The beauty of content is that you can literally create whatever you want. You can write about crypto, make videos about running, vlog your life, post research, share memes, the options are limitless. In the context of Hormozi’s book, he means it in an entrepreneurial sense. If you are trying to sell something or promote your business, there is no better way than creating content. It is one of the key components of getting leads.
Hormozi encourages you post with volume. Post 100 times a week. Whatever it takes. Basically post until you cannot be ignored. Trust the process. Just like everything else, growth through content is non-linear. We live in an age where creating good content can change your life. That is not something to take for granted.
Start now.
Great book for everyone. Even if you are not in sales or an entrepreneur, there are plenty of principles to take with you.
