My NFT Purchase, Limiting Screen Time, and Balancing Workload

What’s up legends 🤘

On this week’s agenda, three segments… 👉

  •  Crypto Scoop: My new NFT purchase and why (Hint: 🐧)

  •  Getting Better:📱 Limiting Time on screens (From a podcast with Dr. Healthy K Gamer)

  •  Staying Fit: 🏋️ How I balance mental and physical workload

Let’s get to it 👇

Joining the Huddle 🧊

This past week I joined the Pudgy Penguins community as I think they have made a pretty monumental innovation in Web 3.

CEO, Luca Netz, and the Pudgy team launched a “phygital” toy collection on Amazon and it went number 1.

It seems to be one of the first times in NFTs where outsiders are taking part without knowing it.

This is largely thanks to the focus on the Pudgy Penguins IP and the creation of relatable gifs on Instagram which took them to over 500k followers.

The toys come in figures and plushies that have a redeemable code where you are given a soulbound NFT to customize in “Pudgy World.”

In Pudgy World, you can trade different traits that you get from your collectible though Polygon.

Not only is this fun for adults, but kids as well.

I like what Luca said here:

They generated over $500,000 and sold over 20k toys in just days.

The beautiful part about Web 3 is the benefits this brings back to holders of the Pudgy Penguins IP through their NFTs.

This thread from Wale.Swoosh explains this very well:

Overall, I think this sets a new standard for what digital ownership of an IP can do and how it can seamlessly onboard non-crypto users in different ways.

This is not so much a shill, but a recognition of a project thats helping bring Web 3 capabilities to everyday people.

How to Limit Screen Time ⌛️

Screens are a productivity killer and we all know it.

Luckily I was able to catch Dr. “Healthy K Gamer” on the Modern Wisdom podcast with Chris Williamson.

I want to share what he said, but before that, here is the link to the podcast for anyone interested:

So Dr. K is a psychiatrist, Twitch streamer, and Youtuber. Therefore, he is able to give a unique perspective as a doctor and a user.

He says that much of our screen addiction comes from our brain getting dopamine in the most convenient way.

This often leads to doom scrolling which is counter productive.

As far as gaming, game developers are very good at tricking the mind into simulating what you would feel in real life, but by playing a game.

This makes us detached and less immersed when we leave the game and enter the real world.

What about Social Media?

Well, he says that all of these social media companies make a great product which is a problem. But why?

The simple answer is because they win by grabbing hold of your mind and attention, leaving you as the loser.

How to combat this?

Dr. K says the best thing you can do is to become more tolerant with boredom. Every second of our lives is filled with stimulation so we suck at being bored.

Start with no phone in the bathroom. Nothing is that important where you need the phone to take care of your business.

Onto the last section…👇

My Journey with Mental and Physical Balance 📌

Most of you know I am a fitness freak.

Pretty much everyday my GM post is a video of me in the gym.

Example:

I get asked a lot how I manage physical workload with the mental workload it takes to create content, write, do coding courses, etc.

The reality is, it’s a grind.

I get excited about waking up and getting better. I enjoy a lot of the work I am putting in, but I will show up regardless.

I make sure to allot time to relax, watch a show, surf, hangout with friends, or just straight up do nothing.

I don’t beat myself up if I get off track slightly or am less productive than I’d wished.

The grudge you hold against yourself is what throws off the balance.

Get obsessed with getting better, and enjoy life along the way.

It’s not as serious as you think.
